Page two of Google search results is where businesses go to die. If your ranking in Google searches is so low that it falls off the coveted first page, it’s less likely anyone is going to find your business. Why, you ask? This is why . . .

So the real question you want to ask is this: how do I make sure my business stays on the first page of Google search results?

One method is to utilize the Google My Business listing service. Google My Business is a free service that many businesses overlook either because they don’t know about it, or expect it’ll eventually show up automatically. What it does is place your company on the right hand side of Google search results (or at the top in mobile searches) complete with contact information, a click to call feature (for mobile), hours of operation, reviews, and map directions.

Here are the 5 main advantages of why it’s important that your your Google My Business is setup properly:

1) Best Search Visibility
The My Google Business profile will appear on the top right of any search for your business or at the top of the page on a mobile search giving you the best possible placement. If someone is looking for a local product or service related to your business, if your account is properly setup, you should also appear in the business search results box that appears under paid search ads, but above regular search results.

2) Displays the Most Relevant Information
People want to know the most relevant information to your business when they’re searching for you, and Google My Business does just that. Among the info displayed, you can find the following:

  • Link to your website
  • Your phone number
  • A click to call button (for mobile)
  • Hours of operation
  • Busy times
  • Relevant photos
  • A description of your business
  • Location
  • Directions
  • Reviews

“50% of all the mobile consumers who search for a local business in a day visit it as well. Furthermore, 18% of them end up making a purchase.” – Google, 2016

3) Displays Your Location and Directions
As mentioned above, the location of your business is displayed as part of the Google My Business profile. Clicking on the map link will open up the exact location and you can quickly obtain directions through Google Maps or the app on your phone. Or you can simply click the ‘Directions’ button.

4) Encourage and Actively Respond to Reviews
The profile also encourages users to write a review through the ‘Write a Review’ button and they can even add their own photo of the business they’re searching for. As a business, it gives you a place to send people to write a review where you can respond accordingly.

5) It’s Free
This is a service that Google offers to all businesses for free. Getting a My Google Business profile is quick and easy. Setting up the account to make sure the pertinent information is included and displayed properly is what many businesses struggle with.
